About Us:

The goal of Churches of Christ is neither to "protest" nor to "reform". Rather we seek to restore that original form found in God's word. We know God's work is perfect and that it will be the standard by which we are judged (John 12:48) . So we let the Bible be our guide in all things (Col 3:17). WE desire to speak where the Bible speaks and be silent. We are trying to follow what God says instead of what we might prefer. (Matt 7: 21-23)

We have Bible classes on Sunday morning for all ages and then morning worship. We have a Sunday night worship services and a Wednesday night services also. Our worship services includes singing, praying, and a sermon from our minister. We also have a communion on Sunday. This is a remembrance of Jesus on the cross.

History:

The Talladega congregation of the Church of Christ was established in October of 1938 by Dr. & Mrs Joseph Barnett who moved from Birmingham to Talladega for the purpose of establishing the church.

In 1993 Julia Landers Wallis found a newspaper clipping in her mom's Bible that said the church assembled in Talladega as early as 1904 and in 2000 it was learned fromJerry Beck that his grandfather, William Hester Burk was a minister of the Talladega congregation in the early 1900's. The church met in Dr. Barnett's office until 1941 when the brethren from Munford under the leadership of Franklin Camp & Marion Hayes purchased a lot at 410 Court St.North and constructed a building.

The church outgrew this location and in 1954 a brick building that included classrooms, storage closets, restrooms, ministers office and an auditorium designed to seat 500.

In 1957 the building was air conditioned and then 2 years later a nursery was built. In 1963 the church acquired the property adjacent to the original lot. In 1968 the educational unit was constructed which housed 10 classrooms and a library / conference room. The old classrooms and offices were remodeled at that time also. The church in 1984 purchased additional property on East Street extending land to Howard St.

FELLOWSHIP BUILDING:
In 1999, construction began on a fellowship building with the size 70 x 50 on a concrete slab with steel framing, a metal roof and brick veneer. In 2005 we began to experience other problems and this was ll repaired and in 2010 leading we had a portico built over the door and walkway leading. to the parking lot.

OTHER PURCHASES:

In 2021 a new camera & speaker system was installed to enhance the worship services for those homebound members. New projectors & new songbooks were purchased for the members worshipping in the auditorium.

In 2022 an LED sign was purchased and mounted at the old brick sign on front lawn. Then a new baptistry was purchased in March of 2023. It was built as a raise3d platform on top of the old baptistry. A tankless water heater, and new plumbing was installed. Steps and handrails were also constructed and blinds was purchased to replace the curtains.
